The First 100 Days - A Masked Portrait Project by Lillian Favreau
On January 20th, 2021 I began carving linocut portraits of masked individuals. My project directly corresponds to President Biden’s request that everyone wears a mask, every day, for the first 100 days of his administration. I am creating this series of portraits as a commentary on the political climate and state of our country as we live through a global pandemic.

Lara Lofdahl wears a mask because "mask-wearing is a science-backed strategy for mitigating the spread of COVID-19 and other airborne illnesses. I wear a mask to protect others as well as myself. Last March, when this was first starting, my father and my grandfather both contracted COVID-19. After 6 days in the hospital, my dad returned home and made a full recovery. My grandfather, however, did not, and he passed away in April after spending weeks alone at the hospital. I know firsthand the toll this disease can take on others and I want to keep as many people from knowing that sadness. So I do my part, stay home when I can, and wear a mask when I can’t."
